One thing I am very thankful for: that we've been hit by sickness during the summer when we're only trying to do math. Four of us got hit with a 36 hour bug that leveled you for those 36 hours. And now poor YDD woke with a sore throat and stuffy nose. During the summer I don't have that little worried voice in the back of my head and I can just focus on coddling my little sickies.
I'm thankful we could open our home to DS's best friend [T] for 2 weeks. They met when about age 4 or 5 and only got to see each other when DS went for summer visitation to see his birth-mother. I never thought the friendship would last, but it has and gets stronger with each passing year. I am thankful our family situation allows for this visit; we couldn't have done it last summer.
I am thankful for the outings we've enjoy with T. We've been to the beach and to Portland for Powell's and VooDoo Donuts, and to Bauman's Farm.
At the same time as T's visit, my aunt and uncle have been visiting from Wisconsin. I am thankful for the time we got to spend with them. It was awesome sharing one of our favorite restaurants with them and T: Gustav's.
I am thankful for the time my girls got to spend with their cousins.
I am thankful that in the midst of all the goings that the girls, DH and I were able to make it to church last Sunday.
I am thankful NFL football is just around the corner. I'm thankful for the pre-seasons games I've watched and enjoyed. I love football and it's so cool that it's that time of year again. I'm also thankful for the ability to record games and to fast forward through commercials. I'd miss a lot of games if I couldn't record them.
I am thankful for the bountiful garden harvest we've gotten so far. We're in the process of turning 60lbs of tomatoes into sauce. I did not expect to get that much and there is plenty more on the vines.
I am thankful for my friend, Wendi, who let me pick blackberries at her house so I could make jam to give my nephew, Z. I gave him a jar last year and he LOVED it and wanted more. I didn't make as much blackberry jam this year, but I made enough to share with Z and I am thankful for that.
I am thankful for the responsible person my ODD has become. This week she chose to babysit Wednesday night in addition to her regular Thursday morning job. She came home Wednesday and went right to bed. Thursday she was up with out me getting her up. She was ready in time to be sitting waiting to be picked up at 6:45a. This behavior from her is a soothing balm to my parenting soul, and I am so thankful for that balm and for the behavior. So proud of the young woman my girl is becoming.
