In my life this week… this week has been crazy. We started with an unplanned visit to the dentist for ODD because we feared she had cracked a tooth. Thankfully she did not and her grownup teeth are all healthy, but you know the impact that had on our homeschool day. Tuesday was almost normal. Wednesday was meltdown day; YDD barely got caught up with her sister who did very little school that day. Thursday I woke up feeling weird and ended the day in the ER. The two EKGs I had reveal my heart has a wonky rhythm called a PAC. The ER findings ruled out any congestive heart failure or a heart attack which is all excellent news. What concerns my doctor is that the shortness of breath and pressure in my chest that I experienced got worse when I walked around the block. So I have to schedule a stress test some time in the next 2 weeks so we can further investigate what's going on with my heart. To say I am struggling to cope with the emotions stirred up by this experience is an understatement. We're all just inching towards normal and starting to process and talk about the heart transplant experience. It's just been a long rough week and I am looking forward to a quiet weekend.
In our homeschool this week… we did manage to finish Life of Fred: Jelly Beans which means next Monday we'll start with the intermediate series and Life of Fred: Kidneys. YDD started cursive this week and ODD has done lots of creative writing of her own design. I think she wrote a poem and some of the story board for her manga project. YDD decided not to stop art class after all. *sigh* It's good but it also complicated getting stuff done this week. Our homeschool group is going to hold a "Night of the Notables" in February and YDD has decided to study DaVinci. I don't know as ODD is going to participate because she's working on her project for our group's Geography Fair in May; she studying Japan. Both girls worked on their projects during Friday afternoon's self-directed study time.
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share… go with the flow. My iCal is not very full with completed pink and purple boxes this week. However, learning happened and not much with books. We're going with that.
This week's art . . . took the form of Sharpie on skin:
ODD did this creation on her left hand. The inspiration is a character from her manga project. This is her palm.
This is the back of her hand.
YDD did this on her sister, and everyone was pretty pleased with how it turned out.
Another piece by YDD; she actually did it a couple weeks ago and I didn't get a picture until now. I am pleased she's back to generating her own art because she hasn't been for a while.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing… Sunday after the museum, we went out to eat for wonderful Thai food at CK Thai and we loved it.
We also went to Cupcake Jones and it was delicious! We get there right before they were closing so we didn't get much choice in minis. HOWEVER, I paid for a dozen and the clerk gave me the remaining 8 for free. I was so impressed I left a tip and I am bragging to you guys about it. Go check out Cupcake Jones if you're in Portland OR. It's a short walk from Powell's Books.
Z who looks and acts an awful lot like his dad/my brother
L who is a fireball and reminds me a lot of my girls when they were her age.
ODD is reading To Kill a Mockingbird and this is the kind of cover her copy is. She was pleased to be reading a book old enough to have this kind of cover. This one is for a book club at our library.
ODD is reading this one on the recommendation of a close friend. Her brother also tried to get her to read it, but the friend's recommendation carried more wait. She not quite done with this either.
I started reading this on Tuesday while the girls were in art class and I got so into it I almost forgot to go get them. I figured that was a good sign. This is a pseudonym for J.K. Rowling.
YDD started this as well; it's book 2 in the series. She's enjoying it so far.

I’m cooking… ODD and I made a new recipe that did not have much flavor; I have plans to tweak it if I ever make it again. YDD and I baked a green velvet cake for ODD's birthday [which is today].
I’m thankful for… that my husband is here to see my daughter's 12th birthday. It was a near thing.
I’m praying for… peace and wisdom for managing my life and emotions and stress.
I rewarded my kids this week by… putting them in charge of Halloween. Thursday the girls and I made bundles of candy each with John 3:16 to give out. The girls decorated the porch and the boy rigged a way to lower candy down to kids from the roof. The older 2 had a blast. My youngest not so much because she didn't fit the theme in her pretty pink princess outfit. On the plus side, YDD got to wear the tiara I wore in my wedding which she thought was pretty cool.

YDD made 3 spiders for the porch; guess I could have put this in "This Week's Art", too.
A raven we got from the dollar store and stuck into one of our remaining pumpkins. ODD picked it out, but YDD selected its final spot.

My girlies who are growing up, and I am so pleased we homeschool so I don't miss a bit of that process.
